Most families who love to hit the road for long drives and cross-country travel will find that electronic devices installed into cars give profound pleasure and convenience. It used to be that car radios, music cassette tapes and compact disc players served as entertainment while on the road. Now in-car movies is tops at least for the passengers. This new preference is supported by the addition of portable DVD players, intended specifically for children who easily get bored while being idle during long drives.
What are portable DVD players? These are not built into the car, but are electronic devices carried along during cross country trips and are mounted in cars. Most designs are flip flaps similar to laptops, wherein one side holds the disc drive while the other half serves as the viewing LCD screen. While the standard LCD screen is at around 7", screen size can go much wider at 9" to 12". These devices are provided with rechargeable batteries but are also designed with AC adaptors so it can operate on household or office power sockets. In-car portable DVD's can be hooked to the car's power system through the cigarette charger.

A mounting bracket is usually devised and installed inside the car to hold the portable DVD player while in transit, firmly attached so it can be stable even in the onslaught of sudden car brakes. There are several models of mounting brackets for this electronic device, all you have to do is to simply choose the best method that satisfies your need and preference. Below are a few steps devised to install or mount the device bracket.
First, try to consider the location of the DVD player that will best provide convenient viewing to passengers, except the driver of course. The device actually swivels so it can be easily adjusted to get the precise viewing angle. Some mount it overhead; others prefer it over the headrest, the sun visor, or the dashboard. Whatever the preference, remember that an equivalent consumer product is available and only needs to be installed.
However, the most preferred type is the mounting bracket directly installed under the headrest of the cars front seat. Probably because it is the easier type to install and passengers occupying the back seat will be directly benefited by this type of installation.
In mounting the bracket under the headrest, simply lift the headrest slide-up to expose the two stainless steel arms that connect the headrest to the car seat. Pull out the bracket from the packaging and on the two extended lateral arms into the stainless steel, slide arms of the headrest. Press the headrest back on to the seat and the installation is complete.
Affix the portable electronic device into the bracket. Flip open the LCD screen, secure the device with the mounting clips, and start viewing. If the user wants to use car power, connect the necessary cable into the car's cigarette charger.
Remember, to never install the portable DVD player in locations that will cause inconvenience to passengers and definitely not in areas where it could be easily bumped or kicked.
